How average height by country is measured

The figures above are national averages for young adults (aged 18–25) from the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC), a global network of health scientists, compiled via worlddata.info from more than 2,000 population studies. Heights are rounded to the nearest centimetre; they are averages, so individuals vary widely around them.

Which countries are tallest and shortest?

The Netherlands tops the table, with the average Dutch man at 184 cm (6'0"). Northern and Balkan Europe dominate the top of the list, while the lowest average heights are found across parts of South and Southeast Asia and Central America — Timor-Leste, Guatemala, Laos and Nepal among them. The gap between the tallest and shortest national averages is about 25 cm for men.
